Import & Export Logistics Advisory

Import and export work fails at the joins. Commercial terms that do not match the physical move. A licensed broker who sees the file too late. A DC that cannot take the container on the day it is released. Inland haulage booked against an ETA that was never owned. This file exists to put those joins on one map. It is not a forwarding product. We do not sell the ocean move. We design the program you pay other people to run.

The physical path and the paper path

A lane is not a string of ports. It is origin packing, documents, cut-offs, the declaration, biosecurity where it applies, release, haulage, slot, put-away, and the exception path when any of those fail. Export is the same chain in reverse, with different agencies and different excuses. We map both. We write who owns each step in hours, not in a RACI that nobody reads.

Incoterms as an operating choice

Incoterms copied from the last purchase order are not a logistics program. If you buy FOB and then behave as if you controlled origin packing, you will pay for the gap. If you sell EXW and then promise a customer a delivery date you do not control, you will pay for the gap. We align the term with who actually books, who actually insures, and who actually speaks to the broker. That alignment is tedious. It is also the difference between a clean lane and a storage bill that finance treats as freight.

Clearance without theatre

Australian Border Force clearance sits on the importer even when a broker lodges. We do not lodge. We design the pack: commercial invoice, packing list, origin documents, tariff settings that were not copied blindly, and a hold response that starts in an hour rather than after storage has begun. Policy on duties and biosecurity moves. Most delay we see is still documentary and calendaring. A broker briefed late cannot invent a clean declaration.

What you receive

A lane map from origin to put-away, or from DC to overseas receiver. A document pack list. A broker briefing note. A calendar that ties haulage and DC booking to a single ETA discipline. If you need a licensed broker appointed, that is a selection conversation, not a product we sell. If you need a lawyer on the contract of sale, that is your lawyer. We stay on the operating design.

Open this file when buying, warehouse, finance and the broker are not working from the same dates. Do not open it if you want us to issue a bill of lading. We will not.

Import as a calendar, not a quote

A freight quote is a price for a move. An import program is a calendar that has to survive an ordinary week. Origin packing that does not match the commercial invoice will not be saved by a cheap ocean rate. A broker briefed after berthing will not be saved by a good relationship. A DC that publishes slots the inbound ETA cannot hit will convert a clean clearance into storage. We write the calendar first. The quote sits on top of it, or it is refused as incomplete.

FCL and LCL fail in different places. FCL fails at packing, documents and the inland slot. LCL fails at deconsolidation time and at labelling that the warehouse cannot read. Treating them as the same lane with a different rate is how wholesalers fund surprise storage. We map them separately. We name the owner of cut-off, of the declaration pack, of haulage booking and of the dock appointment. Four owners who are actually one person is allowed. Four owners who are nobody is not.

Export without a heroic first shipment

Export work in this practice is for companies that can make the goods and have not yet made a repeatable lane. Packing standard, document list, cut-off owned by a role, Incoterms that match who books, a briefing note for the forwarder the client will appoint. We do not issue the bill of lading. We do not sell the space. We write the program so the second shipment does not require a second invention. A quote treated as a customer promise is how first exports go late and then get blamed on the vessel.
